2014 March 8th & 9th - Saturday & Sunday had the honor of speaking at Bass Pro Shops Spring Fishing Festival at the Olathe store. I had a great turn out on both days and felt I did a decent job connecting with the audience while sharing my tricks & techniques. On Sunday they actually let me utilize the fish tank to demonstrate my slip bobber speech. I also talked to a few people that said that they were catching them at the La Cygne power plant lake - the only lake without ice on it!

2014 March 10th! Monday - It was Joe Sheables birthday so I called to wish him happy birthday. I helped his girlfriend pick out some gear for him Sunday at BASS PRO. Upon talking to him, I mentioned they were catching them at La Cygne. He told me he would be driving by La Cygne in a few hours. He was coming home from a conference in South East Ks. We agreed to meet there and fish the afternoon bite. I went and finished my shows at the radio station, then asked Dana if she could pick up the kids. SHE AGREED!!! Love ya Dana!!!! Finished the Radio stuff around noon, picked up the boat in Hillsdale around 1pm and was on La Cygne by 2:15. Caught one first cast! Great start to the 2014 season - I thought. Didn't catch another for 40 minutes!!! LOL They were stacked up on the spillway of the Dam and there were 3 boats already in place. They were catching em every cast, I was out of casting distance. Switched from minnows to jigs and it gave me another 20 yards on my casting - it made the difference! Caught about 8 in the next 20 minutes. Then Joe called, went and picked him up at the dock & then headed back to the spot. We both caught fish - few keepers. We were just 30 yards from where the guys were catching em every cast. This was frustrating! I finally told him we needed to try the submerged bridge. He agreed and off we went.
It took a long time to find the bridge because my new equipment did not have the GPS locations stored. Found the old road but not the bridge. I told joe to give me a minute - I wanted to check the Humminbird 360 for the bridge. I opened up the radius on the settings to the farthest settings. The bridge came up around 80 yards to the right. Not only did it show the bridge but TONS of fish markings on it. Took the cursor and marked the bridge then let the I-pilot do the rest! Got lucky on the anchor drop and we secured smack dab in the center of the bridge. We took a screenshot because the clarity of the bridge and fish were so amazing. Dropped the jigs & WHAM, first case thought I had a monster crappie on - turned out to be a little channel cat. Second cast - WHAM thought I had a little channel cat on & it turned out to be a BIG 11 inch crappie! We caught them every cast from then on till dark. Ended up catching well over 80 fish within 2 hours. Ended up with 26 keepers! Great start to the season and a great birthday for Joe! We are going again Friday!

Monday Jan, 19th 2015 - Fishing La Cynge and hammering them! Solid 12 & 13 inch crappie! Fished last Thursday Jan 15 and had to break through the ice, today 3 days later it was 65 degrees! Very impressed with the size of fish, very competitive and heavy concentrates of fisherman due mainly to the fact La Cynge is the only lake in the area un-frozen.

March 22, 2015 - Great weekend of fishing. Over the past two weeks I have guided 6 times with very successful trips four out of the 6 times. I have found it best to not charge the customers when the bite is slow. Ran it to bitterly cold conditions last Saturday morning and the bite slowed to a halt over the last 3 days. On the 21st, I drove to Pratt and became certified by the Kansas Parks and Wildlife Department as a Certified Angling Instructor. I will be helping the Kansas Parks and Wildlife Department secure grant money by volunteering my time in helping teach people the joy of fishing. I have my first gig this Tuesday teaching girl scouts and helping them acquire their Boaters Safety Badge. I will be leaving a week from tomorrow for Mississippi. We will be fishing Grenada, Lake Washington, Sardis and possible a trip up past Nashville to fish Reelfoot Lake. I wil be taking lots of pictures and will be fishing with my dad, uncle dan, cousing Mel, Paul and a few others. Should be a blast!
